Quilting 101: Introduction to Quilt Piecing and Assembly

Curious about quilting? Quilting 101 is a beginner-friendly class designed to give you the skills and confidence to start your quilting journey.

In this hands-on course, you’ll learn essential techniques used in quilt making, including:

• Sewing an accurate ¼" seam allowance
• Understanding basic quilting terminology and how to read patterns
• Safe and effective rotary cutting
• Strip piecing, cutting, and reassembling quilt blocks
• Constructing half-square triangles
• Nesting seams for precise piecing

Throughout the class, you’ll work toward completing a table topper or mini quilt, giving you the opportunity to practice your new skills while creating something you can take home and be proud of.

If time allows, we will also introduce machine quilting and binding techniques to help you better understand how a quilt is finished.

Prerequisite: Basic sewing experience is required. While this is a beginner quilting class, students should be comfortable using a sewing machine and sewing a straight seam.

By the end of Quilting 101, you’ll feel confident creating a basic quilt top and will have a solid understanding of how quilt patterns work and how quilts are constructed—setting you up for success in your own beginner-level projects.

Sewing Machines – you can use our sewing machines.

If you have your own sewing machine that you would like to use, you can bring it to class along with the manual.  If you bring your own sewing machine, it must be in good working order. No vintage machines. No Featherweights. If there is an issue getting results with your machine in class, we will ask you to switch to one of our machines.

Please arrive to class on time with supplies already purchased. We will begin the class on time.  If you are more then 15 minutes late for class you will not be able to participate. 

Cancellation - If you need to cancel your registration, please contact us, in writing: info@thequiltspotnj.com within 72 hours of the start date of the class. When cancelling at least 72 hours prior to the start date, a refund will only be issued if and when we are able to fill your spot; otherwise, a credit for a future class will be issued.
